A Crafting with cedar roses

By Lucinda Jenkins

Using Cedar Roses

Cedar roses are such a neat thing to work with. They look like roses but have a woody texture. We had alot of fun going wild with spray paint and glue guns. The possibilities are endless for using these items. We started with some simple projects to gear up for the holidays. These are simple enough for childrens craft projects at school, scouts, Sunday school, home school projects.

Fall Napkin Ring

These are so pretty and would make a simple holiday napkin ring for Thanksgiving.
First spray paint the cedar rose with a Bronze craft spary paint( available at any craft store) . Sprinkle with glitter while wet
Spray a piece of a pine tree branch gold and then lightly spray a red silk leaf with gold.
(We pull a leaf off of an old arrangement that was going to be thrown out.)Recycle!
Cut a piece of wide ribbon , any color about 12 inches long. With a glue gun glue the leaf to the middle of the ribbon, glue the pine branch piece to the leaf, glue the cedar rose to the pine branch. When dry ,tie around you napkin. Very pretty!

Fall Festive Candle Ring

This was so fun to make! The materials you will need are cedar roses, star anise, whole rosehips, gold spray paint, bronze spray paint, glue gun. Start by spray painting your roses, star anise and rosehips the color that you want.
To build your ring turn a small bowl upside down and begin to glue the cedars together around the bowl but not TO the bowl.
The bowl is your guide to keep things round.
Next hot gule your star anise and rosehips to your ring of cedar roses. Very easy and really fun!. When set lift off the bowl and set around your candle

Gift Toppers

These are quick and easy too!
Just paint your rose any color you like ( we used chrome here) and add to the top of a gift. We also used white glitter on this on. We also painted very small twigs gold and added a think layer of salt to the wet twig. It looks like snow! ( that is for another issue)

Gift Toppers

We spray painted the star anise bronze and gold again and added to the gift box. How easy!
The staff and I enjoyed our day of spray painting. They even hot glued my Cheez-It snack crackers together in the shape of a person and then spray painted it gold....thanks alot!
You can make toppers to your potpourri or toppers to baskets. Cedar roses can be scented and then used as toppers to gifts, giving your gift a wonderful scent
Star anise and whole rosehips are available in the bulk herbs section
