                                       Cloves

Cloves are a multipurpose spice found all over the world.  They are grown in Indonesia, Madagascar, Zanzibar  and the island of Pemba. This spice has been a favorite for thousands of years. The Chinese started a spice trading route almost 2000 years ago for this special spice and the rest of the world joined in.  Cloves can also  be found in the mummy wrapping of ancient  Pharos.  Fortunes were made by the East Indian Spice Traders.  The building of Yale University was by a wealthy American spice trader, Elihu Yale.  Amazing what this little spice has done!

The word clove is from the Latin word "clavus" which means nail.

Besides the aromatic pleasures , cloves also have medicinal properties. Cloves have a high content of eugenol which is an effective local anesthetic and is also an antiseptic  This why it was used in dentistry years ago . It has been and is used in toothpaste, mouthwashes, perfumes.  Cloves also contain a high amount of  manganese but in the West we underrate and overlook the healing power that cloves contains.
