Yerba Mate tea

Yerba Mate

Yerba mate(Ilex paraguarensis) is a tea from South American , Argentina, Southern Brazil area. It has been consumed by the residents of these countries for centuries .

The Guaranir Indians called this the “Drink of the Gods” because of the health benefits they felt after drinking the mate.

In 1964 The Pasteur Institute did a study on the properties of Yerba Mate. Their conclusion was “it is difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to Mate in Nutritional value. It has most all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life." That is one powerful plant!!

Yerba Mate also contains a xanthine alkaloid called Mateine. Mateine acts like caffeine but doesn’t have the side effect of caffeine. It will stimulate the mind, ease depressive moods and increase concentration. It will not interfere with sleep like a cup of coffee would.

Yerba Mate also helps deliver oxygen to the heart and muscles and is becoming a favorite among “natural bodybuilders”. It also has thermogenic properties or otherwise helps to burn fat.

There is a lot of interesting folklore that surrounds this plant. The Guaranir Indians claim that the knowledge of this plant was given to them by a “White bearded God” who left it as a gift to be used during happy times and sad times and to maintain health.

We carry this wonderful in the herbal tea section and we also have a flavored mate called "Mate Chino"
